I liked Burke, not convinced with Oxford though

1v1 away from home whilst doing his best to rest an injury plagued squad.

We did OK. Stop pissing your pants some of you.

Cant believe how assured Burke looks every time he plays. For a young centre back learning his trade he looked very comfortable on the left.

Oxford was again very assured although started to lag a bit towards the end.

Would of liked to of seen Fletcher come on for Calleri.

I turned it off after 70 minutes and went to bed. If the players are not interested then why should I be. Do we want to be in this competion or not?? This game was akin to watching a game over the park on a Sunday morning. Complete fucking rubbish. Sunday will be interesting.

We are missing Payet & Lanzini badly. Get them back and everything will be good again.

Poor maybe but it is what it is. 0-0 and we're through.

I hate 'new' west ham sometimes

I think group stage should be the goal for experience to build for next year and then fuck it off.

Expect the plan was to save the players for Sunday after playing Monday while still keeping the tie under control.
If we win Sunday & get through next Thursday Bilic will feel vindicated.
It's a balancing act obviously not helped by the long term injuries and the likelihood that we won't have our key creative pair of Payet & Lanzini together for at least another month.

Sir Alf, ageee on Obiang but comparing us to Newcastle is scaremongering.

Re: ⚽ Astra Giurgui v West Ham - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
Thought we were really very poor, but it's valuable match-time for the younger players. Hard to work out what the plan for the match was - just pass it around and hope something turned up on a plate? We need a better approach than that!

Re: ⚽ Astra Giurgui v West Ham - The Official Match Thread
We have a lot of injuries in key areas and too many games for the current squad to cope with.

Slaven has a lot on his plate to manage the situation.

I think we will be fine this season but a mixture of bad luck with injuries and an inexplicable lack of match readiness produced one of the worst games I can remember and worrying too

Re: ⚽ Astra Giurgui v West Ham - The Official Match Thread
I think we were dragged down a bit to their level, and the pitch was fucking Sunday league. Maybe I'm making excuses, but I think it will be comfortable at home, like the last round. It's where we go from here I'm not sure. I really don't think we're cut out for it yet.

Re: ⚽ Astra Giurgui v West Ham - The Official Match Thread
Slow and unsure as we looked, a bit of Sir Alf's post may make more sense, bearing it all in mind.
After last season's easy reds playing their role in our early exit, is the fear of red cards limiting us?
Poor results may make the club consider more firepower because at the moment we are going into the Premier League season with water pistols when the teams we are playing are investing in cannons.

Ern, I think we should have enough at home.

But it is how we will do in the league proper that worries me. And there were people on here last season, that said the CL would have been a good experience for us!

Obiang frustrates me more than most. Technically a good footballer (control and passing) and strong on the ball but like you say lacks the ability or refuses to put his body on the line and really close the space.

The whole midfield is just giving teams too much space. Either they are so unfit they cannot keep pace with them or they are being instructed to hold off or not dive in?

Lots of wide players and runners (box to box) is ok but you need some grafters who make the opposition's life hard in the middle. All of more defensive midfielders are too slow it seems :-(

We look like Newcastle did last year and just cant get started it seems?
